Definition: In a simple term it is called as “attention giver or seeker”. Lets have the example of “you”. When you were a child, you always wanted your mother to be around you. So you always wanted your mothers attention. So there was an attachment or bond build up. When you grown up you always wanted to speak to your mother, share things with her and the same way she also wanted, as she grows old. The more we give attention to the person we are attached to that person and their absence makes us feel alone, sad, isolated, etc..
Recently, I have shared a question on various platforms to understand the “Attachment Theory”. The question was – “Suppose one day leave for your “boss” and one day leave for “office boy”. Whom do you miss the most? Well the answer was with mixed responses. It was like Boss only, Office Boy Only, Both, Depends upon the boss, etc, etc…
Lets introspect further on this. The above question seems to be very simple and funny. But don’t you think it is somehow linked to the “Organizational Behavior” section of that organization. A professional work culture not only creates values among the employees but also creates a single thread of attachment among the employees irrespective of their grades. If an employee feels the pain then everyone involved in the role should feel the pain.
I am sure, every one of us is ambitious in their job profile and wants to succeed in the career path. Let us ask our self whether we are creating the attachment in and around us. Put yourself on the boss position and take one-day leave. Whether your colleagues are missing you or not? You will find the answer.
• Are you showing a good sense of humor? – No, you don’t have to tell jokes, but display their appreciation of humor
• Are you sharing your vision?
• Are you demonstrating the organization is bigger than you? or displaying you are the boss?
• Are you creating more leaders or managers?
• Are you sharing the credit?
• Are you accepting failure and taking the blame?
• Are you celebrating when things go well?
• Are you respecting others time?
• Are you encouraging others development?
• Are you leading by example?
I am sure you got the answer whether you are missed or the office boy? If not Please try this you will be missed on your leave day and employees will be attached to you.
